Microgreens & sprouting seeds — fresh greens in days, indoors

Microgreens and sprouts are the fastest harvest in gardening — nutrient-dense seedlings you grow on a windowsill in days, no garden required. They're the easiest possible entry into our vegetable seed range and a year-round source of fresh leaves. Curious how it works? Our seed growing 101 guide gives you the basics in minutes.

Grow these any month of the year. Indoors, microgreens ignore the seasons — sow a fresh tray every week.

Microgreens vs sprouts

Sprouts are germinated in a jar and eaten whole, root and all, in three to five days; microgreens grow a little longer in a shallow tray of compost and are snipped at the first leaves. For jar-grown mixes see our dedicated sprouting seeds, and for more quick wins browse fast-growing vegetables.

How to grow them

Both need only warmth, moisture and light. Rinse sprouts twice a day; sow microgreens thickly on damp compost and keep them bright. There are no pests or feeding to worry about — just clean water — which makes them a brilliant first grow for children and beginners alike.

Want salads all winter? Pair weekly microgreen trays with windowsill leaves for fresh pickings off-season.
